National Youth Success. 22-12-11

Joe Martin the bands young Soprano player has been rewarded for all his hard work under the teaching  of Jim Shepherd. After attending an audition  at Salford university Joe has been awarded a place in the prestigious National Youth Brass Band. Joe started his playing with Knaresborough Band and joined Knottingley in time to help us gain promotion to the First section, so his inclusion in the National Youth Band is another great step forward for Joe and also means here at Knottingley the future is in safe hands.  CONGRATULATIONS JOE THE BAND IS VERY PROUD OF YOU!

New Player. 21-11-11

The band would like to welcome Jacob Lusk who has joined us on second trombone. Jacob already has good contest experience having spent the last two years with Grange Moor Band, and will no doubt be a great asset to us. We hope he enjoys his time with us.

Opportunities With KSB. 17-11-11

The band is approaching its busiest time of year. Christmas, whilst very enjoyable, means alot of carols and not much time for band management! We still have a couple of vacancies which we would like to fill for our 2012 First Section lineup! We are looking for a front row cornet, the position being negotiable for the right candidate. We also require a B flat bass player to complete our engine room!

Band Summer BBQ. 2011.

Sunday 21st saw the band hold its summer BBQ. MD Owen very kindly hosted the event and thanks to the catering skills of Julia who created some wonderful salads and Richard who took the BBQ duties we were very well fed. After a rest and a few beers a not too serious game of cricket ensued until we had managed to lose all the balls! Agreat time was had by all and we look forward to our next get together.

Congratulations.

The band would like to extend its congratulations to Rob Lovatt & Clare Spragg who announced their engagement on 11th August 2011.

Welcome.

The band would like to annouce the arrival of Jack Limbert who joins on cornet. Jack has not been playing for a while, but brings a wealth of experience having previously played With Kippax.

Hello and Goodbye.

The band has this week said goodbye to Matt Bradley and Briony Argent, Matt has left for personal reasons and Briony due to the pressures of work. The band would like to welcome Nat Martin who joins us on 2nd Horn.

Yorkshire Regionals 2011.

Saturday 5th March saw the band head to Bradford for the Yorkshire regional contest. A kind draw saw the band take the stage 8th out of 12 competing bands. The Adjudicators again praised Dr. Wedgwood for his attention to detail and musicality and singled out solo Euphonium player Liz Stimpson for her ability to play with panache! unfortunately a few slips meant we were unable to emulate last years win, but we were awarded 3rd place, which sees the band promoted to the First section for 2012.

Brass At The Guild 2011.

Sunday 6th February saw the start of our contest season with a trip to Preston. A kind draw meant not too early a start, so that when we arrived on stage we were relaxed and ready to go. A good performance was heard and the adjudicator praised the solo players of the band for their musicality and also the interpretation of the music by Dr. Wedgwood. The band was awarded a creditable 4th place, which gives us something to build on for the area contest next month.

Matt is head of music at Beckfoot school in Bingley and as we all know at Knottingley he is extremely dedicated to his teaching! WELL DONE MATT.

National Finals 2010.

Having won the 2nd Section title at the regionals at Bradford, we had the honour of representing Yorkshire at the Finals on the 25th September. After alot of hard work by the band we came away with a very creditable 4th place and also took away the best instrumentalist prize, which went to our side drummer John Turnbull.
